Eating dirt can be good for you – just ask babies

The next time your kids get sick, tell them to go eat dirt

The New York Times  recently wrote an interesting article on the benefits that children receive when they expose their immune system to dirt.  In the super clean environments that we now raise our kids, the essential factors for developing a strong, robust immune system are missing.   Apparently our bodies learned long-ago to use these microorganisms to help with digestion and other healthy bodily functions necessary for proper development.

In studies of what is called the hygiene hypothesis, researchers are concluding that organisms like the millions of bacteria, viruses and especially worms that enter the body along with “dirt” spur the development of a healthy immune system. Several continuing studies suggest that worms may help to redirect an immune system that has gone awry and resulted in autoimmune disorders, allergies and asthma.

So in other words, let kids be kids.  Let them play in the dirt, jump through the leaves and build sand castles at the beach.  It’s giving their immune system a work-out that will help reduce real bacterial infections in the future.

…children who grow up on farms and are frequently exposed to worms and other organisms from farm animals are much less likely to develop allergies and autoimmune diseases

Man Held for One Week in Jail for Selling Raw, Healthy Milk

James Stewart was held in L.A. County Jail under brutal conditions for selling milk.  James is a 65 year old gentleman who has “never even harmed a fly in my life” that was arrested without charges and subjected to starvation, raw sewage cleanup, sleep deprivation, verbal abuse, and denied the right to speak to his lawyer.  The interview is recorded in this video by Mike Adams from http://www.naturalnews.com/  James goes in to detail about his experience of being “lost in the system” in L.A. County Jail and how now he can no longer sleep at night without fear of being ransacked and jailed.

The crime was selling healthy, organic milk?  This sounds like BS but its not.  Since the milk was not pasteurized, they claimed he was harming the public.  Numerous studies and history itself have proven that not only is raw milk safe, but is also incredibly healthy to the human body. It is a healthy mix of live probiotics that help rids the stomach of unnatural bacteria that otherwise flourishes in the absence of our natural stomach flora (killed off by all of the antibiotics that are prescribed by doctors and found in our food)

Addiction to electronic devices is real, sometimes with deadly consequences

Duane Hoffmann / msnbc.com

The dangers of video games can be hard to recognize.  After all, it’s just games, right? Not so.  The video games I grew up with were the simple, original Nintendo style games that were low graphics and cartoonish in appearance.

I must admit, I was at one point in my life addicted to video games.  I was in high school and I couldn’t wait to get home to play Final Fantasy VII for playstation.  Months went by with the same desire to play as much as possible.  I eventually stopped after my memory card fell hard to the floor and erased my data.  I was so mad.  But I also realized that this was a serious addiction.  After that experience, I largely stayed away from video games as I noticed that I was living some kind of double life that left me confused and lost.  My real world which was boring and then my video game world that was exciting and entertaining.  I stopped playing but my brothers didn’t.  I would watch as they spent hour after hour fixated on the screen like possessed machines.  I know why; it was more gratifying than the real world to them.  Like lost souls drifting in a vast, dark ocean looking for just something to grab on to.

Sometimes, people get sucked into a game and aren’t really aware that they are fully consumed by it.  Unfortunately, in Taipei this happened to a young man who fell victim to these video games.  He died after a gaming binge at a internet cafe.  He ignored his own bodies warnings about dehydration and stress and eventually stopped breathing right at the computer.  He may have been saved if rushed to a hospital immediately but the neighboring gamers didn’t notice that he was in trouble. In fact, for nine hours no one noticed.  People were all around him.  Simply amazing, and sad.

In this world, it would be good if we are aware of all of the mind altering devices that are out there.  They have the ability to distort your reality.  So much so that you may lose your life.  Whether it’s the computer, tv, radio, cell phone, or unknown future device, we should be cautious.  The life you save may be your own.   Look for the warning signs of an addiction.
