On Natural Health News, A woman has recently died at the age of 30 with no apparent causes except that she was on a steady diet of 8 liters of Coca-cola a day. Also she was a 30-a-day smoker as well. Coca-cola is now being considered the cause of her death. She suffered from an extreme lack of potassium which coca-cola is known to strip from the body. Her liver was also extremely damaged from excessive soda intake. This all resulted to a heart-attack for this poor woman.
Her partner said she was so addicted she would keep a bottle next to her bed and drink it as soon as she woke up.
At the rate of 8 liters a day, that equals over 400 grams of sugar (really, high-fructose corn syrup, which is way worse) or just about one pound.
Also she drank the caffeine equivalent of 12 espressos. You can read the whole article here
The dangers of video games can be hard to recognize. After all, it’s just games, right? Not so. The video games I grew up with were the simple, original Nintendo style games that were low graphics and cartoonish in appearance.
I must admit, I was at one point in my life addicted to video games. I was in high school and I couldn’t wait to get home to play Final Fantasy VII for playstation. Months went by with the same desire to play as much as possible. I eventually stopped after my memory card fell hard to the floor and erased my data. I was so mad. But I also realized that this was a serious addiction. After that experience, I largely stayed away from video games as I noticed that I was living some kind of double life that left me confused and lost. My real world which was boring and then my video game world that was exciting and entertaining. I stopped playing but my brothers didn’t. I would watch as they spent hour after hour fixated on the screen like possessed machines. I know why; it was more gratifying than the real world to them. Like lost souls drifting in a vast, dark ocean looking for just something to grab on to.
Sometimes, people get sucked into a game and aren’t really aware that they are fully consumed by it. Unfortunately, in Taipei this happened to a young man who fell victim to these video games. He died after a gaming binge at a internet cafe. He ignored his own bodies warnings about dehydration and stress and eventually stopped breathing right at the computer. He may have been saved if rushed to a hospital immediately but the neighboring gamers didn’t notice that he was in trouble. In fact, for nine hours no one noticed. People were all around him. Simply amazing, and sad.
In this world, it would be good if we are aware of all of the mind altering devices that are out there. They have the ability to distort your reality. So much so that you may lose your life. Whether it’s the computer, tv, radio, cell phone, or unknown future device, we should be cautious. The life you save may be your own. Look for the warning signs of an addiction.
